2010 Fish Count Totals

The 2010 year turned out to be an excellent year for salmon and steelhead populations with more than 100,000 spring Chinook, 40,000 fall Chinook and 200,000 steelhead Snake River Region Summer Steelhead Recovery Goalsbeing counted passing Ice Harbor Dam. Local steelhead populations also experienced record numbers for example the Touchet River had 600 adult steelhead pass upstream through the WDFW fish trap in Dayton, WA and another 200 were observed in Coppei Creek. The Tucannon River has also experienced increasing numbers of returning spring Chinook with approximately 1,500 adult fish counted at the WDFW fish trap. Since 2008 the Tucannon River spring Chinook population has been increasing dramatically to a mean of over 1,200 recovering from a low of as few as 54 Ice Harbor Fish Countsadults in 1995. The Walla Walla River had its first salmon fishery since reintroduction as a result of 1,200 adults returning. The wild steelhead population found in Asotin Creek also has been experiencing increasing adult returns with >1,100 adult being counted at the WDFW trap.
